Mouse and keyboard controls
Keyboard shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text box, number field, or selector, except where a focused 2-D handle field has its own keys. Escape remains available to close the active dialog or viewer.
App-wide shortcuts
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| Cmd/Ctrl+N | Start a new design. |
| Cmd/Ctrl+O | Open a saved design. |
| Cmd/Ctrl+S | Save. There is no shortcut for Save As. |
| Cmd/Ctrl+Z | Undo. |
| Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Z | Redo. |
| Cmd/Ctrl+Y | Redo. |
| G | Generate panels. |
| P | Open the panel viewer when generated panels are available. |
| S | Toggle the seam overlay. |
| R | Request a 3-D viewport reset. See the current limitation below. |
| Escape | Close the panel viewer or the open app dialog. |
Current 3-D reset limitation
After wheel zoom, R does not always reframe the 3-D sail immediately. Select Front, Side, or Top in the top bar for an immediate snap and fit. The requested R reset takes effect when the surface next rebuilds.
Navigate the 3-D preview
| Gesture or control | Result |
|---|---|
| Drag left button horizontally | Rotate around the upright axis. Vertical movement is ignored for this gesture. |
| Drag middle button | Pan. |
| Hold Space and drag left button | Pan. |
| Hold Ctrl or Cmd and drag left button | Pan. |
| Mouse wheel or trackpad scroll | Zoom towards the point under the pointer. |
| Select a face of the orientation cube | Snap to that orientation. |
| Drag the orientation cube | Orbit and tilt the view. |
| Front, Side, or Top | Snap and fit to the named view. |
See 3-D preview for the camera behaviour and view overlays in context.
Navigate the 2-D designer
| Gesture or keys | Result |
|---|---|
| Mouse wheel or trackpad scroll | Zoom around the pointer. |
| Drag middle button | Pan. |
| Hold Space and drag left button | Pan. |
| E | Fit the active view to its extents. |
| Z, then E within about one second | Fit to extents. |
| Z, then W within about one second | Start window zoom; drag a rectangle around the area to fit. |
| L | Move focus to the first checkbox in Layers. |
| ? | Open or close the 2-D keyboard-help overlay. |
| Escape | Cancel window zoom, close help, or clear the selected handle. |
In All view, wheel and pan gestures affect only the subview under the pointer. Each Front, Side, and Top view keeps its own pan and zoom.
Edit 2-D handles with the keyboard
Select a handle, or use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through the handles and fields. The popover uses each control's natural unit: millimetres for corners, percentages for edge and section controls, and percentages or degrees for tangents.
| Focus state | Arrow keys | With Shift |
|---|---|---|
| Handle popover field is focused and empty | 0.1 unit | 1 unit |
| Canvas-level handle focus | 1 unit | 10 units |
Horizontal arrows change the first handle value; vertical arrows change the second. Tangent handles have one value, so only horizontal arrows apply.
Type a number for an absolute value. Prefix a positive relative change with +, such as +5. Because a plain negative number is an absolute value, type --3 to subtract 3 from the current value. Press Enter, move with Tab, or leave the field to apply it.
The complete direct-editing workflow is in 2-D designer.
Dialogs, popovers, and the panel viewer
- Close an app dialog with its ×, Escape, or a click on the shaded backdrop. Controls such as Done can also finish and close the dialog when shown.
- Select an i button to open its contextual explanation. Select it again or click outside to close it. Escape closes the active popover or its containing dialog.
- In the panel viewer, drag anywhere on the canvas to pan and use the wheel or trackpad to zoom around the pointer. Select Fit to view to reframe all panels. Select Back or press Escape to return to the design.
